My Song Memories

Number 15 and its accompanying memory

Oh how I love this song and its memories. Hey They Pretty One by Roy Orbison. I was in Japan, sitting in the Navy cafeteria, feeling sorry for myself cause I just found out the Japanese girl I felt I was in love with, was already married. A young civilian teenager went over to the juke box and played this song. It caught my attention immediately and I got up and went over to see what the name of it was. He came up to me and asked, "Pretty nice song, huh?" I told him I agreed and I went back and sat down. No telling how many times I played that song the rest of the day. I have a habit of playing a song that gets my attention repeatedly. It is my personal favorite by Roy Orbison. Just listen to the words. Certainly the words of a man in love, unrequited as it may be. It will always remind me of a young Japanese lady named Kazue (Connie) Kumi Takaara. I later met up with her in San Francisco and we almost got married. She had divorced her husband, a merchant sailor, to be with me. Unfortunately, I had just got out of the Navy and could not find a job in San Diego so we decided she would go back up to San Francisco and stay with her girlfriend and work while I would go back to Cleveland where I knew I had a job waiting at CEI. Unfortunately for us, I met Lady X and the rest is history. But she was as Pretty a Japanese Lady as you will ever see.
