Number 20 and its accompanying memory
Number 20, Lonely Weekends, brings up a myriad of memories, all related to days when I was stationed at the Naval Air Station, North Island, in San Diego. I was attached to Tactical Air Control Squadron 13 and we operated out of a hangar on the north side of the island. On the south side was an air terminal and it had a little cafeteria that made the best grilled "spam" and cheese in the world. They did not use the traditional canned Spam that we are all so familier with. Not sure what meat they used but everyone in the squadron loved them. Grilled spam, cheese, lettuce, tomato, mayo, the whole thing. Very sloppy but absolutely delicious. Consequently, most evenings and weekends, when the troops would get hungry, we usually had someone make a "geydunk" run over to the terminal cafeteria and bring back a load of food. Then we would all continue to sit around in the tv lounge and watch tv or play poker or pinochle. This song, Lonely Weekends, just seemed to be playing a lot and was near the top of the charts. How appropo for all us lonely troops staying on base. So many great cards games, tv shows, and whatever other activites we would get into. Great times. It just made the Lonely Weekends less lonely.
