My Song Memories

Number 22 and its accompanying memory

I love this memory. The song is When You Say Nothing At All. It reminds me of a lady named Joyce. She was a student at the college where I was the Executive Director and at least 25 or 30 years younger than me but so beautiful. She was Filipina and had the prettiest smile. Over the course of time, we had a few conversations and I came to learn she had just gotten over a difficult relationship, or was it marriage. I don't remember but I know she was very unhappy. With the help of my secretary, who was also Filipina, I started buying small gifts and my secretary would give them to her anonymously. You know, things like flowers, box of candy, eventually graduating to a nice pair of shoes, a sweater, and things like that. It was such a pleasure seeing the smile come to her face. She would always come into my office at the end of the day and tell me about her secret admirer and what he gave her. I asked her if she knew who it was but she said no. I heard this song one day at home and for some reason, it reminded me of Joyce. Eventually we became friends outside of the school and she found out I was the secret admirer. We never got closer than good friends. I never even kissed her. But we have remaind good friends ever since we met. Today she is engaged to a man she has been with for seven years. We don't talk much but it is always so nice to hear from her. She always remembers my birthday. I wish her nothing but the best and truly value her friendship. She was a friend to me when I needed one. She had a look in her eyes that truly said It Best, When She Said Nothing At All. Thanks for your friendship Joyce.
