My Song Memories

Number 23 and its accompanying memory

Wow. You talk about a song that brings back memories, this is one. It is Suspicion by Terry Stafford. I like this version better than Elvis's. Let me tell you about this song. I and one of my buddies, Ed Shanahan, were out running around on the street. Ed met this young girl, they started talking, and she invited him to her house. Ed asked me to go along as she said she had a girlfriend living with her. So I went. Sadly, I don't remember the girlfriend's name but she was very interesting to talk to. We went into the kitchen and sat at the table and left Ed alone with the girl in the living room. Come to find out, this girl was engaged to a guy that she did not want to marry. Seems she was in love with her ex-boss, a bar owner. While working for him, she had become romantically involved and he had told her he was going to divorce his wife for her. Well you all know how that line ends. She was broken hearted and I could see her pain. She was also very religious and was constantly reading excerps from the bible to me. She was attractive and without going into any details, we ended up in the bedroom and, shall we say, consummated our friendship. Then she started crying and reading the bible again. She said she felt terrible for what she had done. I thought, "Was I that bad?"...lol. Anyway I calmed her down and we went back out into the living room only to find Ed and the girl going at it. Sheesh. Back to the kitchen and more talk about her life. I really liked her and felt so sorry for her at the same time. But I already knew at this point I was going back into the Navy in a couple of weeks so I figured I would not see her any more after this night. Eventually we walked back to the living room and they were now sitting up on the couch. Not a minute too soon. All of a sudden the front door opens and in comes her fiance. "Oh my God," I thought. But we were just sitting there innocently talking when he arrived and we played it out that way. She introduced us. We shook hands. He was a skinny, hillbilly looking guy but it mattered not to me. We said we had to leave and he said, "Wait! Let me go outside first. My brother is out there with a gun just in case I needed some help." Talk about melodrama but I was not about to take any chances. He went first and then we left. Turns out I did get to talk to her a couple more times after that but only talk. I felt so sorry for her and often times wonder how her life ended up. Her image appears every time I hear Suspicion. I wonder if she ever married Mr. Suspicion. Oh well.
