Number 34 and its accompanying memory
Number 34, Mona Lisa by Nat King Cole, is one of those songs that really has no rhyme or reason as to why it evokes a particular memeory...at least for me. But at the time it came out, I was in the seventh grade going to William Dean Howells junior high school and had already developed a mad crush for a young lady named Darlene Kane. I hear the song and it reminds me of some kind of music class we had together. I can't remember if it was a singing type class or an instrument type class. All I know was she was in it and for some reason, this song played frequently in that room. The song talks about Mona Lisa's smile and that might be the connection. Darlene has the prettiest smile I had ever seen. Heck, everything about Darlene was pretty...lol. I have a new Mona Lisa today and she has both arms so I made out in that deal. Still, Darlene Lisa or Mona Kane, whichever, the song fits the lady.
