Number 36 and its accompanying memory
Number 36 is San Francisco. Wow the memories I have of that town. This song brings up the day, I believe a Saturday, when Jim Melton and Wayne McNabb and I headed on into town to make a day of it. First we saw the movie Goldfinger. Then we strolled by the beach checking out the ladies and showing off our uniforms. Then we headed to the bars for some serious drinking. I remember one bar in particular. When you walked in, and it was a huge walk in area, you were confronted with a giant barbecue grill. You picked out your choice of meat, (that the bar sold to you), and you grilled it to your taste. Really enjoyed that but glad I was sober at the time. They also had a jazz piano bar which I enjoyed even though I am not into jazz. But it was time to get down and dirty and off to the "sailor" bars...which we did. Got so drunk that night, I don't remember coming back to the barracks. When I got up the next morning, the top of my head was so sore, I felt surely we had gotten into a big fight someplace. That was until I went into the head to get cleaned up and looked in the mirror. The top of my bald head was beet red. From the beach I imagine. True pain to the touch. Been through some experiences in San Francisco I simply can not put in here. It is surely a weird town. But it is San Francisco and I do believe I left my heart there more than once.
